Occasionally, the IRS will reject a return for various reasons. If your return is rejected for any reason, our system will give you the error code that corresponds with your reason for rejection, and also clearly explain how the error can be fixed. After fixing the error(s), you can retransmit your return for free.
An error can occur for various reasons, but one of the most common reasons for rejection is that
the EIN is not accepted by the IRS. This can be because the EIN that was provided on the return
contained an erroneous character, but it can also occur if the EIN was applied for very recently.
Typically, it can take up to 10 business days for a new EIN to become active within the IRS e-File database.
This means that if you apply for a new EIN, the IRS might not accept your return within the first 10 days.
